About the Project: From Pocket Calculators to High-Precision Web Tools
Hi there! I’m Alex, the creator and sole developer behind matecalculator.com.
My obsession with technology began in the early 90s. Back then, I was just a schoolboy scouring popular science magazines for any scrap of news about the "computing revolution." My first encounter with actual programming wasn't on a PC, but on the legendary Soviet MK-61—a programmable microcalculator that used Reverse Polish Notation (RPN). It was a beast to master, but it taught me the fundamentals of logic and algorithmic thinking.
A Journey of Passion
IBM-compatible PCs were a luxury my family couldn’t afford at the time. I owe my career to my school physics teacher, a true tech enthusiast who saw my spark. He gifted me a ZX Spectrum-compatible computer and even helped me figure out the wiring to use my old tube TV as a monitor.
That act of kindness changed everything. I went on to graduate from university as a licensed Physics and CS teacher. Those early years—spent mastering BASIC and Assembler on the Spectrum, and later moving to a Celeron 850MHz during the expensive "Dial-up era"—shaped my entire philosophy as a developer.
Why This Site is Different
Today’s web is bloated. Many sites require dozens of megabytes just to perform a simple calculation. I built matecalculator.com as an antidote to that.
- Zero Bloat: No frameworks. No unnecessary libraries. Just pure "vanilla" code.
- Privacy-First: No third-party tracking. No ads.
- Built for Speed: Optimized for low memory and instant response.
Supporting the Project
I cover the server and domain costs out of my own pocket because I believe high-quality tools should be accessible to everyone.
Best regards,
Alex, Lead Developer at matecalculator.com
